Cloth Diapering

Pursuant to my last two posts, I should probably mention that I preface the majority of my conversations with, "I read this interesting article in the BBC/ New York Times/ Deseret News/ Other about x."

But that's not what I'm going to blog about today.

I am giving cloth diapering another go. I gave it a half-hearted attempt a few months ago, but I was experiencing morning sickness and coming in close contact with diarrhea by choice when you are already nauseated is plain masochistic.

I have two fuzzibunz brand diapers and six bum genius ones. They all have strange cutsie names. Kissaluvs is another one. Eight diapers is more than enough for my toddler at this point. I will probably need a whole bunch more diapers once the New Kid arrives, but I am going to wait until I know which kind I like the best before purchasing more. At $18-$20 a pop, the initial expense does have a tendency to turn one's hair white. The math doesn't lie, though - cloth diapering pays for itself pretty quickly.

So we've done cloth diapering for three days in a row now. So far it's going ok. I'll keep you posted.

  1. Washing every day is hard core, Beth. Hard Core.

I tried the diaper trial at Jillian's drawers. It's $20 to try a bunch of different kinds of diapers for 3 weeks. It's not even a scam. And they don't even charge you if they stain. However, they might spoil you into thinking you need two days worth of diapers. (Or in my case, 3.)

I actually have some really cheap diapers I bought on ebay from china and they actually work really well. I think they'll wear out faster than my smartipants and my bumgenius, but for the price they can wear out twice as fast and so far they aren't going at that rate.
